Ode to Ziggy Stardust & others… David Bowie pop up stores in London and NYC

Who misses David Bowie ?  I do, we lost a unique talent 5 years ago…

Fans and fanatics will be keen to visit the David Bowie pop up shops now open in London and New York, in celebration of his 75th birthday (even though Bowie died in 2016 – and the anniversary of his birthday is on 8th January). Both events opened earlier this week – 75 days before the 75th birthday – and will run through to late January 2022.

The Bowie pop up stores feature areas themed around his life and works… in London a red British phone box (as seen on his ‘sleeve of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album) includes a handset playing Bowie’s voice and interviews… an “interactive mirror which places people in Bowie’s most famous outfits”*… and immersive music experiences via Sony 360 Reality Audio (featuring Bowie music mixes). There’s also loads of collectable, apparel, art and photography items on sale#

Also in London fans are encouraged to “Drop By Dressed Up As Your Favorite Bowie !” on 31st October. I imagine lots of Ziggy’s, Rebels (Rebel…) and androgynous characters floating around the store that day ! Other special events (free, pre-ticketed) include readings and conversations around Bowie’s legacy of music, acting and art – in London and NYC.

Event bookings and more info can be found at bowie75.com

The London location – 14 Heddon Street, just off Regent Street – is significant to Bowie fans… it is the building shown on his Ziggy Stardust album cover (1972). And the New York Bowie pop up store – 150 Wooster Street SoHo – is “just a short walk from Bowie’s longtime residence” (up until he died)
