Kingston’s last hurrah (for now…)

Their Pop Up Bar has been a very popular initiative…

This Friday 14th March will see Kingston Arts host the closing party of their Pop Up Bar (sigh). For the past 5 weeks they’ve provided a very lively hub for the local community – entertaining residents, workers and visitors with some great music and activities, lubricated with ample beverages from the Pop Up Bar (and food of course…)

The final night for 2014 will feature the dynamic Perch Creek Family Jugband – a hugely-popular group of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists (um, try saying that word out loud….). These slightly-eccentric guys originally hail from Perch Creek NSW – 4 of the 5 of the players are siblings (well done, Mr & Mrs Hodgkins), one is (apparently) “Australia’s top one-legged saw player”… they also boast the accolade of “Who magazine’s ‘most handsome jug player’ “. Okay, gotta see all this !

The 2nd season of the Pop Up Bar has certainly been a great success for Kingston – building on numbers each week and enjoying support from council and rate-payers alike. One local business owner offered :

“Bringing culture and diversity to our city is an awesome effort. My family loved the pop up last year, and again this year. I’m very happy my rates fund this event” – Mike O’Sullivan.

This sounds like a pop-up success story – and it seems that Kingston Arts are already making plans for more of their Pop Up Bar experiences (keep a watch out for their next installation…)
