A new take on the “virtual” pop up shop
This is a real virtual installation. Huh ?
Every now and then I make a comment about those businesses which announce their “on-line pop up shop”… I’ve said it all before :
“I have a bit of ‘an issue’ with virtual pop up shops. There is no such thing – those ‘events’ which exist only on-line are using the essence of pop up as a grab for attention, without making the slightest effort to embrace the characteristics of good (genuine) pop up…”
But in the Brisbane suburb of Manly Harbour there’s currently a virtual pop up shop which I do approve of ! It is a physical event – offering virtual reality experiences via a boutique “pop up cinema” installation. Local business Extreme Virtual Reality will set up their cinema again this weekend, within the YellowPopup store. Short-film sessions run 40 minutes each, for up to 10 people (and bookings are essential)
We’ve been following the success of YellowPopup ever since they launched last December…and they’re busy ! It seems every week or so they’ve had a great variety of pop up businesses moving through the space – supported by consistent and energic social media campaigns. Well done team !
