popping UP in melbourne #8

…gosh, a busy time for pop ups around Melbourne…

Federation Square is hosting the Pop Up Patch (vegie gardens…) – with over 100 small plots available for members of the public (and nearby restaurants) to grow their own fresh produce. Learn more on the pop up patch video – seems like a pretty neat idea !

Also at Fed. Square this month (in the No Vacancy Project Space) is the Tribe Shoppe pop up store*, 13th to 25th November. These guys have stepped out of their on-line store to offer you a real quick feel of their Australian designed and made products…. or is that a quick but real feel (?)

Further into the CBD, swimwear and lingerie brand Mirea have opened a pop up shop* at Melbourne Central (shop 121A, level 1 near Lonsdale Street entry)

While out in the ‘burbs…

Greville Street in Prahran currently features 2 pop up shops :

Bubbly friends Jina and Natalie have teamed up to share a space at #111. Urban Jin (Jina @UrbanJin on Twitter) and harv & milla (Natalie) are having a great time with their eclectic mix of fashion, accessories and art – loving the buzz and atmosphere of the local ‘hood…

While just across the road at #126, Cukoo Nest offers a range of female fashion and vintage wear, fascinators and accessories… they opened before the spring racing carnival and will stay on ‘till the end of December

Along High Street in Armadale :

Sydney-based fashion designer Kirrily Johnston has a pop up outlet at #1033* – 16th to 18th November.

And just along the same street at #1111….did you see our earlier post on the Simon Johnson pop up shop ?

TimeOut Melbourne tells us*

There’s the Sunday Morning Designs boutique pop up shop at 173 Lygon Street East Brunswick – open from 17th November until 24th December, with their range of mens, womens and children’s wear, bags and jewellery, books and bedding…. as well as “a mottley collection of things sourced from travels around the world” (TimeOut’s words, not ours….)

TimeOut also says… that the I Scream Nails girls have relocated their pop up shop – over to 123 Scotchmer Street Fitzroy. From 10th to18th November (weekends only)

Missy Confidential says*

Handbag and accessories retailer sterling & hyde will come up from Sorrento to hold a Warehouse Sale at 3 Glasshouse Road Collingwood this weekend (17th to 18th November only)

Club 21 (level 1, 11-19 Bank Place Melbourne) will host a Jeans Sample Sale – Armani Exchange, Calvin Klein and DKNY – from 20th to 23rd November

And… recently we told you about the pop up YOGA STUDIO at Federation Square (27th October only) – well now they’ve relocated to West Melbourne and doing a regular gig* (3 days a week, over the summer months…). To book your space to stretch and contemplate…. email studio@popupyogastudio.com

Finally (…this isn’t a pop up – but such a unique event that it certainly deserves a mention….) this weekend sees a sale of the entire contents of artist David Bromley’s Prahran studio. There’s room after room of paintings and sculpture, quirky furniture and rather odd items, all within an amazing, rambling space. It’s quite eclectic and perhaps a bit kitsch – an inspection is seriously entertaining (for adults anyway). Though I could understand when a small boy (8 years old ?) was whinging to his mother yesterday, saying he was SO BORED… obviously ‘cos he was NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH… Melbourne auction house Leonard Joel will start the sale at 1100am on Sunday 18th November, public viewings continue until Saturday 5pm. At 280 Chapel Street Prahran.

* so they say, I admit we haven’t checked these out ourselves…
