The Far Fetched Designs pop up finds a new home

This team opened 4 pop ups in 2 years… now settling into a permanent location.

Not quite 2 years ago, a couple of creative Melbourne women came together to open the very first Far Fetched Design pop-up shop. It was (apparently) an immediate success – they were “instantly overwhelmed by how welcomed we were by the community…” Both women had been independently creating and selling children’s clothing and accessories at markets around Victoria… soon after meeting they realised they wanted to try “bricks and mortar” together, showcasing their products alongside other handcrafted items.

So the concept of Far Fetched Designs was launched… and the formula was kept pretty simple. At each of their pop-ups to date – and in their newest store – all items are either handmade, locally designed or made ethically (but primarily focused on locally handmade products). Owners Belinda and Rachael say “our customers love knowing where something has come from and how it is made; and because we have such intimate working relationships with all of our stockists, we’re often able to get customised products made to order. Our customers tell us how refreshing it is to be able to buy someone a gift and know there aren’t 100,000 of them out there in different stores – and we agree !”

At the end of next week Far Fetched Designs will open the doors to their purpose-built Creative Hub in Seddon, continuing “one of the best-kept secrets in the Inner West… a favourite spot for savvy buyers looking for unique, quirky and one-of-a-kind gifts”.

The new store will also encourage creativity – local talents from the Handmakers Factory will run workshops for adults interested in learning new skills in the creative arts (weaving, dying, screen-printing, stamp-carving and more)

The Far Fetched Designs team worked hard in their pop up stores – with some pretty good results ! In less than 2 years they’ve grown their social media followings to over 10,000 (on Facebook, Instagram and email subscribers) and supported more than 170 local small businesses – giving most of those their first experience in selling through a retail space…

There are still opportunities for others to sell products through the Far Fetched Designs shop – the team say they “will be chatting to and accepting makers continuously. So we’d love to hear from anyone interested in joining us a ‘resident maker’ !“ For stockist enquiries contact Belinda or Rachael via email at
