A Pink pop-up !
Coinciding with her Melbourne tour… Pink does pop up !
In case you haven’t heard (….where have you been…?) – mega pop star Pink started her 2013 Australian tour across in Perth last month and soon heads over to Melbourne for the first of 18 shows in this city (that’s a record number of concert dates for one artist at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena…)
To coincide with the Melbourne concerts, the tour promoters have just opened a pop up shop in the heart of our city. But access is by allocation only – organisers expect such crowds (and hysteria ?) that visitors must register a specific time to attend the merchandise shop and exhibition at Thousand Pound Bend
Pop up shops are proving a very popular (and profitable) enhancement to concert tours – we’ve mentioned them here before… in our pop stars pop up article last November.
British boy band One Direction recently had more of their branded merchandise packed into a 1D World store in Dallas Texas. Dallas is the 25th global pop up store for the band – a phenomenon which started last year in Australia. These stores are so incredibly popular – long queues of fans stretching around the block, selling out of merchandise within hours – but the boys are usually nowhere to be seen. In fact, even though they are currently on tour in the US, One Direction don’t actually perform in Dallas until 22nd July (2 weeks after the pop-up closes). And then (omg, OMG !) they’re heading our way, touring Australia in September and October. Which of course probably means we’ll see more 1D World stores here very soon !
